Things to do in San Diego

  • Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation (Discovery Center)- a small hidden gem. This is a perfect activity if you have been to San Diego before, or if this is your first time. With hands on exhibits, live animals and gardens a visit to the Discovery Center is a great place to learn about Carlsbad's unique ecosystem, and environment.

  • Botanical Gardens- 37 acre urban oasis, with a children's area which includes a fabulous tree house and a railroad. You will be transported out of San Diego and into 29 different garden exhibits where you will be immersed in nature.

  • Costal Roots Farm- open the second Sunday of every month for tours, or private tours are available. Costal Roots Farm is a tucked away farm that is built around ancient Jewish values, sharing their harvest with those who lack access to food, providing education on farming techniques, and hosting events to educate the community on building a sustainable future.

Parks and Playgrounds

As a parent who travels with her three smaller children often I am always on the hunt for playgrounds or parks when I travel so my kids can get their wiggles out and play with other children. Below are some of our favorite parks located throughout the county.

  • Balboa Park- with a few playgrounds sprinkled throughout Balboa Park is known for its museums and being home to the World Famous San Diego Zoo. Located near downtown San Diego this historic park is a great place to spend an afternoon or a full day.

  • Belmont Park- historic amusement park located on the beach in San Diego's Mission Beach neighborhood. Expect to find your typical amusement park rides and attractions, as well as an escape room, mini golf, and ropes course. Also home toThe Plunge Pool San Diego's historic indoor salt water swimming pool since 1925.

  • Civita Park

  • Waterfront Park

  • Bonita Cove- located in Mission Beach this playground and park has plenty to do. Across the street from Belmont Park on the bay side this pink and blue playground is sure to keep your kids entertained for hours.

  • Omni La Costa- located 14 minutes from Legoland this is the perfect spot if you plan to explore North County San Diego and spend time at Legoland. With multiple swimming pools including- Splash Landing Family Pool with 2 large water slides and one toddler slide, and a sandy beach swimming pool, and splash pad area.

  • Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina- Centrally located in Mission Bay you are minutes away from Belmont Park, Sea World, Downtown San Diego, and the Bay. Views of Sea World Fireworks during the summer from your room are sure to help create a magical experience. With three swimming pools, and waterslides this is the perfect spot for families who want to be within a 1 mile of the beach, and near the bay to do any water sports such as paddle boarding or kayaking.
