Things to do in Ghana
DAY 1: Arrive in Accra-Akwaaba!
You will arrive at Accra Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Terminal 3. If a visa on arrival has been arranged for you, you will have to visit the immigration office to get your documents. If you already have a visa, proceed to the health check counter where you will have to have your Yellow Fever vaccination card inspected. After this, continue through immigration.
Baggage claims can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 45 minutes, depending on the number of flights arriving at the airport. After baggage claim, you may be selected for a customs check. If not, you can walk out of the airport to the waiting area where you can be picked up by your ground transportation to your hotel.
For the evening, I recommend a casual meal at the Papillon Pool Bar.
DAY 2: ACCRA CITY TOUR
Your transportation will pick you up from your hotel to give you an overview of the city.
Points of interest include:
Black Star Square
Jamestown and the Jamestown Lighthouse
Arts Center for Souvenirs
Lunch at Buka Restaurant for local food
Freetime to wander around Osu
DAY 3: DAY TRIP TO KAKUM & CAPE COAST
Your transportation will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning to start the trek to the Kakum National Park.
Tour & Canopy Walk in Kakum National Park
Tour around Elmina Castle
Lunch in Cape Coast
Tour of Cape Coast Castle
Dinner at the Papillon Restaurant
Due to the length of the trip and at times the emotional history of the castles, I recommend a peaceful evening to allow rest and reflection.
DAY 4: REST & RELAXATION
The driver will pick you up and take you for a day out at Labadi Beach. I recommend Horse riding at the beach, and later chill at a beach bar and enjoy Kyinkyinga (Ghanaian spicy kebabs).
In the evening, venture out to Afriko for a night of dancing and a variety of culinary tastes.
DAY 5: ABURI
Now that you have seen the city, it’s time to head into the lush Akuapem mountains and Aburi for some fresh air. Then you can tour the Aburi Botanical Gardens.
Arrive at Safari Valley Resort for an overnight stay; this exclusive resort features wildlife, dynamic landscapes and services.
DAY 6: AKOSOMBO
Depart the Akuapem mountains and descend into the Volta. The Volta region is one of the most beautiful areas in Ghana. Not only does the Volta river provide life to many communities but it also nestles some of the richest traditions in Ghana.
Things to do include:
River tour down the Volta River
Visit the Adomi Bridge
Water sports
Buffet Lunch at the Royal Senchi Resort
Return to Accra
Night out in Osu to enjoy the Afrobeat scene
DAY 7: DEPARTURE FROM ACCRA
Before your departure, enjoy light shopping in the morning. Then, transfer to the airport.
