Advisor - Enchanting Christmas Markets: A Magical Long Weekend in Paris
Curator’s statement

“Paris is always a good idea,” but the city becomes an even more enchanting destination when the city is adorned with the magic of Christmas. Stroll through the largest Christmas market in the Tuileries Gardens, nestled in the heart of Paris, with a warm mulled wine in hand. Take a ride on the Ferris wheel for a breathtaking view of the city. Marvel at the mesmerizing city lights during the festive season — from the twinkling lights of the Champs-Élysées to the radiant glow of the Dior windows — and don’t miss the magnificent tree inside Galeries Lafayette. Hop on the train from Gare de l’Est for a day trip to Strasbourg for the largest and most magnificent Christmas market in all of France. It’s all doable during a long weekend in December. Don’t miss it!

Day 1: Marché de Noel Notre Dame

You will likely arrive in Paris early in the morning on your flight from the US. After dropping off your luggage at the hotel, head out to a local crêperie for a delicious start to your first day in the City of Light. If this is your first visit to Paris, a guided tour with a local expert will help you get your bearings. Stop at the charming Christmas market — Marché de Noel Notre Dame — located on the left bank, just a few blocks from the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral. The vibe here is always elegant, relaxed and focused on the holiday spirit — a great way to start your trip!

Day 2: Tuileries Gardens market

Book your ticket in advance to the Louvre Museum and immerse yourself in a world of masterpieces. Choose to explore at your own pace or have a knowledgeable guide lead you through the treasures before you indulge in a delightful Christmas market lunch just outside the Louvre pyramid, in the Tuileries Gardens.

This market is the most extensive and beloved Christmas market in Paris, offering an array of tempting aromas from tartiflette (an out-of-this-world cheese and potato dish) to crepes to roasted chestnuts to sausages. Savor the festive atmosphere by grabbing a cozy spot next to the firepit. Afterward, take a magical ride on the Ferris wheel and enjoy breathtaking views of Paris.

Day 3: Strasbourg market

Begin your day with an early departure on a fast train to Strasbourg, the magical city known as The Capital of Christmas. Upon your arrival, take a short stroll from the train station to Place Kleber, where you will be greeted by a giant Christmas tree at the center of the square. This area is beautifully transformed into a festive village, with over 85 stalls, making it the largest market in the city. Here you can find lots of gifts, treats and delicious food and cookies!

As you wander through this magical city, be sure to visit the Christmas market at Place
Cathedral, home to the beloved “traditional” market. Stepping into this market feels like entering a storybook, as it surrounds one of the most stunning cathedrals in France. The atmosphere is filled with the enticing aroma of seasonal delights, and you can find charming mugs, exquisite decorations and handcrafted gifts from local artisans, along with a variety of food and hot drink options.

Conclude your delightful day in Strasbourg with a traditional Alsace meal of tarte flambée in the picturesque Petite France area, accompanied by some exquisite local French wine, before making your way back to Paris.

Day 4: Abbesses Christmas Market

For your final day in Paris, savor the morning by lingering in a quaint café or shopping for beauty products in a French pharmacy. Then, make your way to the Abbesses Christmas Market in Montmartre. Nestled next to the Place des Abbesses Metro station, in one of Montmartre's most picturesque areas, this market, though small, exudes charm and showcases the talent of local artisans, designers and creators. A grandly decorated Christmas tree, along with occasional visits from Santa and musicians, adds to the festive spirit.

After exploring the market, wander up to Sacré-Cœur for a breathtaking view of the city. Spend some time in the lively Artist Square, where the vibrant sights and sounds of Montmartre come to life.

To conclude your day, embark on an evening cruise along the Seine. Watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle as you sip Champagne, and bask in the glow of experiencing Paris at Christmastime. Treat yourself to the magic of this beautiful city during the festive season!
