Day 1: Arrival in Amman
Upon arriving in Amman, the capital city of Jordan, I was immediately struck by the city’s unique blend of ancient and modern architecture. This vibrant metropolis, steeped in history, embraces contemporary culture. My luxurious journey began at the Four Seasons Hotel Amman, where I was welcomed with warm Jordanian hospitality and impeccable service.
Four Seasons Hotel Amman: Located on one of Amman’s highest hills, this five-star hotel offers stunning panoramic views of the city. My spacious room was a sanctuary of comfort, featuring elegant décor and state-of-the-art amenities. The hotel’s facilities include a world-class spa, indoor and outdoor pools and several fine dining options.
Citadel Hill (Jabal al-Qal'a): After settling in, I embarked on my first adventure to Citadel Hill, one of the most ancient parts of the city. The Citadel is a historical treasure trove, with ruins dating back to the Bronze Age. I explored the remains of the Temple of Hercules, an impressive Roman structure with massive columns. I also saw the Umayyad Palace, which offered a glimpse into the early Islamic period. The panoramic views from Citadel Hill are breathtaking, overlooking the old city of Amman. As the sun began to set, the sky painted the city in hues of orange and pink, creating a magical atmosphere.
Rainbow Street: In the evening, I ventured to Rainbow Street, one of Amman’s most vibrant areas. This lively street is a cultural hub, lined with trendy cafes, art galleries and boutique shops. Walking along Rainbow Street, I felt the pulse of the city. I stopped at a charming cafe to try traditional Jordanian delicacies like falafel and knafeh, a sweet cheese pastry soaked in syrup.
Tip: Don’t miss the view of the city at sunset from the Citadel. The changing colors of the sky over the ancient ruins and the modern cityscape create an unforgettable scene.
Returning to the Four Seasons Hotel, I felt a sense of excitement for the days ahead. Amman had already captivated me with its rich history, modern charm and warm hospitality. This first day set the perfect tone for an unforgettable journey through Jordan’s wonders.
Day 2: Amman and Jerash
The second day of my journey was dedicated to exploring the rich historical tapestry of Amman and the ancient city of Jerash. After a delightful breakfast at the Four Seasons Hotel, I set out to uncover more of Jordan's cultural treasures.
Morning in Amman:
The Roman Theater: The day began with a visit to Amman's Roman Theater. It is a 6,000-seat, 2nd-century amphitheater that remains a focal point for cultural events. The theater's remarkable acoustics and preservation make it a fascinating site. I took a moment to sit in the stands and imagine the ancient performances that once took place there.
The Jordan Museum: Next, I visited the Jordan Museum, which showcases the country's history and archaeological heritage. The museum’s exhibits include the Dead Sea Scrolls and artifacts from various periods of Jordan’s history. The detailed displays and interactive elements provided a deep understanding of Jordan's rich cultural legacy.
Afternoon in Jerash:
After a morning immersed in Amman's historical sites, I traveled north to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. The journey to Jerash took about an hour, offering scenic views of the Jordanian countryside.
Hadrian’s Arch: Upon entering Jerash, I was greeted by Hadrian’s Arch. A monumental gateway built in honor of Emperor Hadrian’s visit in 129 AD. The grandeur of the arch set the tone for the magnificence of the ancient city.
Oval Plaza: Walking through the Oval Plaza, I marveled at the symmetry and scale of this unique public square, surrounded by 56 Ionic columns.
The Cardo: Strolling down the Cardo, the main street of Jerash, lined with columns and flanked by the remnants of shops, plazas and public buildings, felt like a journey back in time. The well-preserved pavement stones still bear the marks of ancient chariot wheels.
Temple of Artemis: The Temple of Artemis, dedicated to the patron goddess of Jerash, was particularly impressive. Its towering columns and intricate carvings highlighted the architectural prowess of the ancient Romans.
Tip: Wear comfortable shoes for walking through the ancient ruins and climbing the steps of the various structures.
Evening return to Amman:
After a day of historical exploration, I returned to Amman. Reflecting on the incredible remnants of ancient civilizations I witnessed. The Four Seasons Hotel provided a perfect retreat, where I could unwind and enjoy a sumptuous dinner, prepared with local ingredients and international flair.
This day, filled with the wonders of Amman and Jerash, deepened my appreciation for Jordan’s rich historical tapestry and set the stage for the adventures to come.
Day 3: Mount Nebo and Petra by Night
The third day of my journey was a blend of spiritual reflection and awe-inspiring ancient wonders. Starting with a visit to Mount Nebo and ending with the magical "Petra by Night" experience, this day was filled with unforgettable moments.
Morning at Mount Nebo:
Mount Nebo: After a delicious breakfast at the Four Seasons Hotel Amman, I traveled to Mount Nebo, a site of great religious significance. According to biblical tradition, this is where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land before his death. The site is located about 35 kilometers from Amman, making it a pleasant drive through the Jordanian countryside.
At Mount Nebo, I stood where Moses is said to have stood, looking out over the vast expanse of the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and even glimpses of Jerusalem on a clear day. The panoramic views were breathtaking, providing a moment of serene reflection.
Historical Significance: Moses Memorial Church: The church at Mount Nebo is home to beautiful mosaics dating back to the 4th century. These intricate artworks depict scenes of hunting, farming, and everyday life, offering a glimpse into the past.
Brazen Serpent Sculpture: Outside the church, a striking modern sculpture symbolizes the bronze serpent created by Moses in the wilderness, blending religious symbolism with artistic expression.
Tip: Bring a pair of binoculars to fully appreciate the distant views and details in the mosaics.
Afternoon: Journey to Petra
After a morning of reflection at Mount Nebo, I embarked on the drive to Petra. The journey took around three hours, passing through scenic landscapes that transitioned from lush valleys to rugged mountains. Upon arriving in Petra, I checked into the luxurious Mövenpick Resort Petra, conveniently located near the entrance to the ancient city.
Evening: Petra by Night
As the evening approached, I prepared for the "Petra by Night" experience, an event that showcases Petra in a completely different light—literally. Walking through the narrow gorge known as the Siq, illuminated by the soft glow of thousands of candles, was a surreal and magical experience.
Petra by Night Highlights: The Siq: The 1.2-kilometer walk through the Siq, surrounded by towering rock walls and illuminated by candlelight, created an atmosphere of mystery and anticipation.
The Treasury (Al-Khazneh): Emerging from the Siq to see the Treasury lit up by hundreds of candles was breathtaking. The iconic façade, carved into the sandstone cliff, glowed with a warm, ethereal light.
Bedouin Music: The evening included a performance of traditional Bedouin music, enhancing the mystical ambiance of the experience. The haunting melodies echoed off the cliffs, adding to the enchantment of the night.
Tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a warm layer, as the temperatures can drop in the evening.
Returning to the Mövenpick Resort Petra after the "Petra by Night" experience, I felt a profound sense of wonder and excitement for the adventures to come. The day had been a perfect blend of spiritual reflection, scenic beauty, and the enchanting allure of Petra, setting a high bar for the rest of my journey through Jordan.
Day 4: Full Day in Petra
The fourth day of my journey was dedicated to exploring Petra, the ancient Nabatean city carved into rose-red cliffs. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, often referred to as the "Rose City," is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and truly a marvel to behold.
Morning: Entering Petra
The Siq: After a hearty breakfast at the Mövenpick Resort Petra, I made my way to the entrance of Petra. The adventure began with a walk through the Siq, a narrow, winding gorge flanked by towering rock walls that rise up to 80 meters. The 1.2-kilometer-long Siq is a natural geological feature that serves as the main entrance to Petra, and walking through it was like stepping back in time.
The anticipation built with every step, and the sight of ancient carvings and water channels along the way added to the sense of history and mystery.
The Treasury (Al-Khazneh): As I reached the end of the Siq, the view of the Treasury (Al-Khazneh) emerging from the shadows was nothing short of breathtaking. This iconic monument, with its intricate façade carved directly into the sandstone cliff, is one of the most well-preserved and magnificent structures in Petra.
I spent some time admiring the details of the Treasury, from the Corinthian columns to the intricate friezes, and took plenty of photos to capture this unforgettable moment.
Exploring the city center
Street of Facades: Continuing past the Treasury, I walked along the Street of Facades, a row of tombs and houses with elaborate facades carved into the cliffs. These structures, though weathered by time, still display the grandeur and artistry of the Nabateans.
The Theatre: Next, I visited the Theatre, a massive structure that could seat up to 8,500 people. Carved into the rock by the Nabateans and later expanded by the Romans, the Theatre is an impressive testament to the engineering and architectural skills of these ancient civilizations.
Royal Tombs: The Royal Tombs, including the Urn Tomb, Silk Tomb, Corinthian Tomb and Palace Tomb, are a collection of grand burial sites. Each tomb features unique architectural elements and offers spectacular views of the city center from their elevated positions.
Afternoon: Climbing to the Monastery
Monastery (Ad Deir): After exploring the main city center, I embarked on the hike to the Monastery (Ad Deir). This trek involves climbing over 800 steps, but the journey is well worth the effort. Along the way, I encountered several viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of Petra and the surrounding landscape.
The Monastery is similar in style to the Treasury but larger and less crowded. Its monumental façade, measuring 50 meters wide and 45 meters high, is awe-inspiring. I spent some time resting and taking in the serene beauty of the area, enjoying a refreshing mint tea at a nearby Bedouin café
Evening: Return to the Mövenpick Resort Petra
As the day drew to a close, I made my way back down to the city center and exited Petra through the Siq. The return journey offered a chance to reflect on the incredible sights and experiences of the day.
Back at the Mövenpick Resort Petra, I enjoyed a delicious dinner featuring local Jordanian cuisine. The resort’s comfortable and luxurious setting provided the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of exploration.
Tip: Bring plenty of water, wear comfortable hiking shoes and be prepared for a full day of walking and climbing. The sun can be intense, so a hat and sunscreen are essential.
This full day in Petra was truly unforgettable, filled with awe-inspiring sights and a deep sense of connection to the ancient world. The grandeur and mystery of Petra left a lasting impression, making it a highlight of my journey through Jordan.
Day 5: Aqaba and the Red Sea
On the fifth day of my journey, I left the ancient wonders of Petra and headed towards the coastal city of Aqaba. This beautiful resort city on the Red Sea is known for its stunning marine life, vibrant coral reefs and luxurious beachfront resorts. The drive from Petra to Aqaba took approximately two hours, offering scenic views of Jordan's diverse landscapes.
Morning: Journey to Aqaba
After a leisurely breakfast at the Mövenpick Resort Petra, I set out for Aqaba. The drive through the rugged Jordanian landscape was mesmerizing, with desert expanses gradually giving way to the azure waters of the Red Sea as I approached Aqaba.

The hotel’s location, right on the beachfront, provided stunning views of the Red Sea. My room was a perfect blend of comfort and elegance, with a private balcony overlooking the sea.
Afternoon: Exploring Aqaba
Snorkeling and Diving: Aqaba is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, making it a paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. I headed to the Aqaba Marine Park, a protected area that offers some of the best snorkeling and diving spots in the region. Equipped with snorkeling gear, I explored the colorful coral reefs and swam alongside a variety of exotic fish. The underwater world of Aqaba was like a living aquarium, with corals and marine creatures in every hue imaginable.
For those interested in diving, Aqaba offers numerous dive sites, including shipwrecks and coral gardens. Diving excursions can be arranged through local dive centers, providing an opportunity to explore the depths of the Red Sea.
Glass-Bottom Boat Tour: For a more relaxed experience, I took a glass-bottom boat tour. This allowed me to enjoy the beauty of the coral reefs without getting wet. The boat’s clear panels provided an excellent view of the vibrant underwater life, and the knowledgeable guide shared fascinating insights about the marine ecosystem.
Aqaba Castle: In the late afternoon, I visited Aqaba Castle, also known as Mamluk Castle. This historic site, built in the early 16th century, played a significant role during the Arab Revolt in World War I. The castle’s well-preserved walls and towers offered a glimpse into Jordan’s rich history. From the castle, I enjoyed panoramic views of the city and the Red Sea.
Evening: Dining and Relaxation
Back at the Al Manara Hotel, I treated myself to a relaxing evening. The hotel’s spa offered a range of treatments, including massages and facials, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. I opted for a traditional Jordanian massage, which left me feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
Dinner at the Al Manara Hotel: For dinner, I dined at one of the hotel’s exquisite restaurants, which offered a menu featuring both international cuisine and local Jordanian dishes. I enjoyed a delicious meal of fresh seafood, caught that day from the Red Sea, accompanied by a selection of fine Jordanian wines. The dining experience was enhanced by the stunning view of the sea and the gentle sound of waves in the background.
Tip: Aqaba is known for its water activities, so pack swimwear and sun protection. Also, consider booking diving or snorkeling excursions in advance to ensure availability.
The day in Aqaba was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, showcasing the natural beauty and luxurious offerings of Jordan’s Red Sea coast. This seaside escape provided a wonderful contrast to the ancient wonders of Petra, making it an essential part of my Jordanian itinerary.

Evening: desert adventure and stargazing
4x4 Jeep Tour: The adventure began with a 4x4 Jeep tour of Wadi Rum. My guide, a local Bedouin, expertly navigated the vast desert, showing me incredible rock formations, ancient petroglyphs, and expansive sand dunes. Highlights included the Seven Pillars of Wisdom and Lawrence's Spring, named after T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia), who famously traversed this region.
Camel Ride: After the Jeep tour, I experienced a traditional camel ride at sunset. The slow, rhythmic pace of the camel allowed me to fully take in the breathtaking beauty of the desert as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the landscape.
Dinner and Stargazing: Back at the camp, I enjoyed a delicious Bedouin-style dinner under the stars. The meal included a variety of traditional dishes, such as mansaf (a lamb and rice dish), and freshly baked flatbread. After dinner, the camp's guides provided telescopes for stargazing. The clear desert skies, free from light pollution, revealed a stunning array of stars and constellations. I even had the chance to see the Milky Way stretching across the night sky.
Tip: Dress in layers, as the temperature can drop significantly in the desert after sunset. Also, be sure to bring a camera with a good night mode for capturing the starry skies.
This day offered a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, showcasing the natural beauty and cultural richness of Aqaba and Wadi Rum. The desert’s stark beauty and the luxurious comfort of the camp made it an unforgettable experience.
