Curator’s statement

The town of Sorrento is a gem along the Amalfi coast, only 50 minutes away from the international airport of Naples. After living in Sorrento for six months and traveling across Europe in that time, I was always excited that “home” was Sorrento. There are endless places to eat and drink accompanied by views and sunsets. Sorrento also has many incredible hotels to choose from that we are partnered with that give wonderful perks.

Things to do in Sorrento, Italy

A view of a wooden staircase leading down to a body of water and rocks in the surrounding areas.

There are many things to do in and around Sorrento. It’s full of life with wonderful locals and lots of shopping opportunities. One thing to do while in Sorrento is browse the shops along and around Corso Italia. If you want more of a relaxed day, the beaches are a must when in Sorrento, as well as going to the spa! There’s a wonderful “underground” spa located in Artis Domus that is available to anyone who makes a reservation.

Another must that is a “local know” is a hidden swimming hole just outside of town. It is called Bagni Regina Giovanna, a little hike in but such a cool spot to go adventure around. Another must-do while in Sorrento is to hike "The Path of Gods." It is a 3.5 hour moderate hike from Bomerano to Positano. You will have to take a taxi, bus or private driver from Sorrento, but it is absolutely worth it because this will be one of the most beautiful hikes you will ever do!

Pompeii is a little train ride away from Sorrento and is such a neat historical site to go see and visit! Sorrento also sits just across the way from beautiful Capri, which is just a boat ride away. Capri is a must-see while in Sorrento! Two other places to visit while staying in Sorrento are Positano and Amalfi. Positano is only 20 minutes from Sorrento, and Amalfi is 50 minutes. You can go see these two locations on a fun day trip by boat, bus or private transfer.

There are wineries inland of Sorrento that are wonderful trips to get out and see more of what’s around and outside the town. Many hotels in Sorrento are old and so beautiful to go in and see (Grand Hotel La Favorita & Bellevue Syrene were two of my favorites). Most of them have a place to grab a bite or a drink and enjoy the view they have.

The last thing that I’ll say is a must-do here, is to get a handmade Italian leather jacket. That will be the best souvenir and will last a lifetime.

Places to eat & drink in Sorrento, Italy

Drinks

  • Chaplin’s Pub: They have great music and a fun atmosphere. There's an Irish spin on the pub, and people love this place due to its fun energy and dancing. The bartenders are always so nice and welcoming, too.

  • Fuoro 51: This wine bar is a great, intimate place to grab a glass in the afternoon or evening. It has a great atmosphere and the waiters let guests play music if there aren't many people in the bar. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming!

  • The Bar at the Imperial Hotel: This place has a hidden bar right through the lobby and it has the best view in Sorrento looking straight over the water.

  • Capri Rooftop Lounge Bar: If you hop over to Capri, you have to have drinks at the Capri Rooftop Lounge Bar. This place has a direct view of the famous Faraglioni rock formations!

Breakfast

Italians don’t do much for breakfast. It mostly consists of hard toast, jam and espresso. But one place that was so lovely and made great cappuccinos and espresso was a trolley-like cart that pops up on the south side of Tasso Square. They had great workers, and you could just walk up, order then chat with others around you. It was a lovely community of people. Unfortunately, there isn't really a name for it, but it’s a must when needing a morning coffee or pastry.

Lunch & Dinner

  • Ristorante Zi’Ntonio: This restaurant is my personal favorite in Sorrento. Their Pasta Siciliana e Melanzane is the best pasta I've ever had. They sadly took it off the menu BUT will still make it if anyone asks (it's a must)! This place usually will have live music and always amazing service!

  • Ristorante Bagni Il Delfino: A wonderful spot right in Marina Grande. It has wonderful food, service and views. There’s a nice sun deck when it’s warm and sunny to enjoy your food on. Absolutely fabulous!

  • La Lanterna: Great food, amazing service and an easy spot in town. The food comes out pretty quick and they have such a friendly staff!

  • Ristorante Fuoro: Located right in the heart of Sorrento, this place has the best lemon shrimp pasta! Amazing service and fabulous owners.

Dessert

  • Gelateria Primavera: This is a family owned business and has arguably the best gelato in Sorrento. Amazing spot right on Corso Italia and usually always has a line! (Also open late!)

  • Riki: This is a little hole-in-the-wall gelato place! They have some of the best gelato with lots of flavors, and it's a family-owned business!
