Curator’s statement
Having spent five wonderful months living in southeastern Sicily, I found the culture, people, food, gelato, pastries, architecture and beaches there to fully encapsulate the authentic Italian experience for me. The Sicilians I met during my stay deeply inspired me with their infectious energy and unique traditions. The cuisine amazed me with fresh seafood, arancini and out-of-this-world desserts like cannoli. Architectural gems like the lava stonework and stunning piazzas transport you back in time. And the island's spectacular sandy beaches lined by turquoise waters provide a heavenly backdrop. If you seek to discover true Sicilian life, starting in Catania allows you to dive right into the island's complex soul. For an authentic Italian getaway, I can't recommend the food, culture and experiences of this island paradise enough!
