Things to do in Grand Teton National Park

  • Hiking and Nature Walks: Trails like Cascade Canyon, Taggart Lake and Phelps Lake Overlook are popular for their scenic beauty and diverse wildlife. The well-known Mormon Row is known for its rustic barns set against the stunning Teton Range. This spot offers a short, easy walk around the historic homesteads to embrace the beauty of fall foliage and mountain landscapes.

  • Wildlife Viewing: Fall is the prime season to see animals preparing for winter. Head to areas like Willow Flats for moose sightings or Oxbow Bend for a chance to spot elk, bears, eagles and wolves.

  • Scenic Drives: The Teton Park Road and Jenny Lake Scenic Drive offer views of the mountains, lakes and valleys. These drives are particularly beautiful at sunrise and sunset. Snake River Overlook and Schwabacher’s Landing are favorite spots for photographers and visitors.

  • Stargazing in the Park: With its low light pollution and high elevation, Grand Teton is an ideal location for stargazing. In the clear November skies, you’ll see constellations, planets and even the Milky Way in all their glory. Join a guided stargazing tour or find a quiet spot in the park with a blanket, hot cocoa and a pair of binoculars to soak in the magic of the night sky.

  • Horseback Riding in Grand Teton National Park: Embrace the spirit of the West by exploring the park on horseback. Fall offers stunning views of golden aspens, wildlife sightings and cooler temperatures for a comfortable ride. Local outfitters offer guided horseback tours and are ideal for riders of all skill levels. This excursion is best suited for an early Fall trip to the park.

  • Make Your Own Hat at Midnight Lunch or Kemo Sabe: Stop by Midnight Lunch to design your own trendy trucker hat with custom patches and colors. For a truly unique Western experience, head to Kemo Sabe and customize your own cowboy hat. From selecting the hat shape to adding feathers or personalized branding, it’s a perfect way to create a memorable souvenir.

  • Teton Village: Just a short drive from Jackson, Teton Village is a must-visit for its dining, shopping and outdoor recreation options. In the fall, take advantage of the Aerial Tram for panoramic views of the Tetons as the leaves change color. Many restaurants and shops in the village cater to a fall crowd. As winter approaches, some venues begin closing in late October, but they reopen in November for the winter season.

  • Shopping and Exploring Jackson Hole: Stroll around Jackson’s town square for unique shops, art galleries and charming cafes. Local festivals and fall events often take place through October, adding to the town's lively fall atmosphere. Don’t forget to check out the famous Elk Anter Arch in the square!
