• Jug Handle Beach - The beach is the perfect starting point for exploring the Ecological Staircase Trail, which takes visitors through five wave-cut terraces formed over 500,000 years.

• Big River Beach - A must-visit destination in Mendocino for its expansive sandy shores, scenic views and wide range of recreational activities.

• MacKerricher State Park - Offers stunning ocean views and opportunities to spot seals, sea lions and migratory whales. Also a great spot for tide pooling during low tide.

• Russian Gulch State Park - Discover the park's scenic trails, the stunning Russian Gulch Bridge and the picturesque waterfall that awaits hikers.

• Noyo Beach - A great place to watch fishing boats come and go or enjoy fresh seafood at local restaurants.

• Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park - The centerpiece is the meticulously restored 1909 lighthouse, which offers fascinating insights into maritime history and serves as a beacon over the rugged Mendocino coast.

• Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve - Where visitors can marvel at some of the tallest trees on Earth along peaceful trails, experiencing the awe-inspiring majesty of these ancient giants in a pristine forest setting.

• Mendocino Chocolate Company - Renowned for its exquisite handcrafted chocolates, made with the finest ingredients and a passion for quality and flavor. I always stop in for a truffle.

• Skunk Train - Riding this train is an unforgettable journey through the majestic redwood forests of Mendocino County, experiencing the timeless allure of steam-powered locomotion while immersing yourself in a bygone era of rail travel. They even offer night trips to a secret bar in the middle of the redwood forest. You can also ride the rail bikes along the historic tracks.

• Catch a Canoe - Rent a kayak or canoe and paddle along the serene Big River, enjoying the tranquil waters and diverse wildlife.

• Mendocino Art Center - Experience the vibrant local arts scene with galleries, studios and workshops showcasing the work of regional artists.

• Goodlife Cafe and Bakery - A beloved culinary gem renowned for its delicious organic fare, locally sourced ingredients and commitment to sustainability and community.

• Cafe Beaujolais - An iconic establishment in the heart of Mendocino, Cafe Beaujolais is celebrated for its exquisite farm-to-table cuisine, enchanting ambiance and commitment to showcasing the bounty of Northern California's local ingredients. My husband still raves about the burger he had here years ago.

• Mendocino Market - Whether you're seeking a gourmet sandwich to enjoy on the go, a bottle of wine to complement your evening meal or a taste of Mendocino's artisanal flavors to bring home with you, Mendocino Market welcomes you to discover the delicious treasures that await within its cozy storefront.

• MacCallum House - Fine dining, renowned for its farm-to-table cuisine and extensive wine list, invites guests to savor the flavors of Mendocino's bountiful land and sea in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

• Headlands Coffee House - A cozy retreat where locals and visitors alike gather to savor freshly brewed beverages, indulge in delicious pastries and enjoy the warm ambiance and friendly community atmosphere. They even have live music most weeks.

• Noyo Fish Company - Specializing in fresh, locally caught seafood, Noyo Fish Company offers a tantalizing array of offerings, from succulent Dungeness crab and wild-caught salmon to delectable shellfish and smoked fish delicacies. I always go with the fish tacos and a pint of local beer.

• Drop In Donuts - Offers a selection of freshly made, handcrafted donuts that are as delicious as they are indulgent. From classic favorites like glazed and chocolate-covered to unique creations such as maple bacon and fruity glazes, or my absolute favorite the Mexican hot chocolate, these donuts are always worth a stop. Make sure to go early, because once they sell out, they close for the day.

• The Raven - Renowned for its exceptional vegan cuisine, offering a diverse menu of plant-based dishes that celebrate the vibrant flavors and textures of fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes.

• Mendocino Cafe - Whether you're enjoying a leisurely meal on the sunny patio or sipping a glass of wine by the fireplace, the Mendocino Cafe invites you to experience the essence of coastal dining. I love the evening outdoor dining here!
