Things to do in Sydney
Sydney Opera House – This is an icon of Sydney and if you’re lucky, there may be a show here you’ll want to see. Tours need to be booked in advance, there are accessible options available. Even if the tours aren’t available, the Opera House is a site to behold and no visit to Sydney is complete without it.
Sydney Tower Eye - The Sydney Tower Eye in the Westfield Centre. It’s the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere (the context is amusing) and it’s a great way to get a feel for the entire layout of the city. If it’s not your thing, the Westfield Center and Pitt Street Mall and nearby QVB offer hundreds of options for dining and shopping.
Pyrmont Bridge – Back in the early 1990's, there was a monorail across Darling Harbour. The monorail is long gone, but the Pyrmont Bridge is a fantastic way to stroll across the harbor. On both sides, shops and restaurants offer plenty of options to relax and grab a bite to eat.
Taronga Zoo – Out of the entire trip, I was most apprehensive about the zoo, but I figured that given the number of families with strollers, it couldn’t be that bad. It was perfect. From our hotel, we took the light rail to the ferry at Circular Quay, just tap a credit card to pay your fare. On the other side, we took the bus up to the entrance of the Taronga Zoo. From there, we spent a good three hours touring the exhibits, they’ll give you a map of accessible pathways. Yes, they have koala's, kangaroos and Tasmanian Devils! When you’re done, your just a few hundred meters away from the ferry to take you back to Circular Quay (pronounced ‘key’).
Places to eat & drink in Sydney
There are a ton of fantastic restaurants in Sydney, here’s just a few:
Chin Chin – Pan Asian cuisine meets a Friday night scene. A great place to meet up with friends for amazing drinks and food. The manager and his crew do an amazing job taking care of guests.
Quick Brown Fox – A fantastic neighborhood eatery. Ben and Emily were more than happy to set up a table to a wheelchair, but you will have to use the washroom in the hotel across the street. Some amazing seasonal dishes were on offer, and it was worth the walk up the hill!
Din Tai Fung – If you need a Chinese dumpling fix in a mall, Din Tai Fung is there. Yes, it’s a chain, but it hits the spot.
Mamak Haymarket - Amazing Malaysian food in cramped quarters. Whether you need a decent Nasi Lemak or a Char Kway Teow, this place has you covered. If you haven’t tried Malaysian Food, this is the place to give it a try!
Manta – If al fresco seafood dining is for you, then head over to Ovolo Woolloomooloo where Manta offers first rate service and amazing seafood. Add to this a beautiful waterfront view of the Sydney skyline and you have the makings of a perfect night.
Café Sydney in the Customs House has amazing harbor view and modern Aussie Cuisine. An excellent choice for a special night out.
Hungry Jacks – If you’re missing Burger King food, look for Hungry Jacks. It’s the home of the whopper in Australia!
Two Good Eggs Café – A morning breakfast spot on Harmony Park. Get there early to avoid a wait!
