Curator’s statement
Marrakech, the oasis city on the edge of the desert, holds a special place in my heart. It is shaped by the friends I have who come from or have lived in Morocco and my own experiences exploring the city across different seasons. Each visit feels like a journey through time and space, where the rich history, stunning architecture and vibrant souks create an enchanting atmosphere. I am endlessly captivated by its cuisine, a feast of flavors and aromas and the warmth of its people, whose hospitality is truly unmatched. Marrakech is a sensory escape, a place where tradition and modernity blend seamlessly into a timeless allure.

Marrakech is not just a destination, it’s a multi-sensory escape where every corner invites you to feel more deeply. Here's how to experience the city through your five senses:
Smell – Start your morning with the fragrance of orange blossoms and exotic plants as you stroll through the Jardin Majorelle, a lush botanical garden once owned by Yves Saint Laurent. Just next door, the Berber Museum offers a beautifully curated look into Morocco’s rich cultural heritage, adding context to the aromas and textures that surround you. For more hidden scents, wander into private riad courtyards, where jasmine, citrus trees and spices perfume the air.
Touch – Let your fingertips guide you through the souks of the Medina, where the textures are as varied as the colors. Run your hands over the thick, handwoven wool of Berber rugs at Ensemble Artisanal, or feel the fluid softness of silk and satin caftans at stylish boutiques like Norya Ayron or Au Fil d'Or. Stop by a leather workshop in the souq Cherifia to feel the supple quality of locally crafted babouches.
Taste – Savor the complexity of Moroccan cuisine, which is both comforting and rich in tradition. Try a fragrant lamb tajine with apricots, classic chicken with preserved lemon or couscous royal at Dar Yacout. For a rooftop experience, Nomad offers updated Moroccan dishes with sweeping views. And for something casual yet iconic, enjoy a spicy kefta sandwich or a bowl of harira soup at a food stall in Jemaa el-Fna, best accompanied by fresh mint tea.
See – Marrakech is a city bathed in color and light. From the ochre walls of the Medina to the intricate zellige tilework of the Bahia Palace, beauty is everywhere. Don’t miss the Ben Youssef Madrasa, a 14th-century Islamic college whose carved cedar and stucco details will leave you speechless. For breathtaking views, climb to a rooftop café at sunset and watch the Atlas Mountains blush pink in the distance.
Listen – As the day winds down, let the city’s soundtrack take over. The call to prayer echoes with emotion from nearby minarets, reminding you of Marrakech’s spiritual rhythm. In Jemaa el-Fna, the evening comes alive with the sounds of street performers, storytellers and Gnawa musicians, whose hypnotic rhythms and metal castanets create an unforgettable sonic experience. For a more curated night out, enjoy live music at Le Comptoir Darna, blending tradition with modern energy.
Marrakech is a celebration of the senses, a destination where every detail, from flavor to fabric to sound — tells a story. Let yourself be swept away.
