Curator’s statement
Columbia, South Carolina, affectionately known as Cola, holds a special place in my heart — it’s where I grew up, and it’s where my family still calls home. Before I moved to Music City (Nashville, TN), I spent my days soaking up everything this charming Southern town has to offer. On my last trip back to visit family, I couldn’t help but notice how vibrant the downtown area and the Vista have become, which inspired me to put this guide together.
One of my first stops was Groucho’s Deli for an Apollo Dipper with Formula 45 sauce and a tall glass of sweet tea — a classic Columbia experience I never miss. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly fun, a couple’s getaway or a solo adventure, Columbia offers a mix of culture, nature and Southern hospitality that feels like home. From the bustling Soda City Market to peaceful walks at Congaree National Park, this city has something for everyone to enjoy.

Shop like a local at The Soda City Market: This year-round, rain-or-shine market features over 200 vendors offering local eats, artisan goods and live music. It’s a community staple that reminds me of a European market — get there early to grab freshly baked goodies and enjoy the lively atmosphere.
