Things to do in Alsatian Wine Country, France

  • Strasbourg Cathedral- Located right in the heart of the city, this is a must-see in Strasbourg. The construction of the church started in 1015 and was finished in 1439. The details of this church are truly magnificent. Another interesting fact is that it was the world's tallest building for over 200 years! It is currently the 6th tallest in the world.

  • Full-Day Wine Tour- Let an expert in the region show you some of the best vineyards in the region. Many tours will offer stops at multiple locations where you can try all of the wines that the region is famous for.

  • Musee Historique de Strasbourg-A great museum that teaches about the history of Strasbourg.

  • Musee Alsacien- Get a great overview about the Alsatian lifestyle here.

  • Quartier des Tanneurs-Walk around the old town in Strasbourg and soak in all of the amazing architecture.

  • La Petite Venise- Little Venice is so picturesque and showcases Colmar’s beautiful architecture. There are many restaurants here right on the water, so you can eat with a view.

  • Segway Tour of Colmar-Jump on a segway and get a guide to show you around Colmar. A tour like this is a great way to get an overview of the city. Then afterwards, you know where you would like to visit for a longer amount of time.

  • Christmas Markets- Both towns have amazing Christmas markets in December. The towns turn into winter wonderlands full of stalls with food and crafts.

  • Food Tour- There are many food tours offered in the area where you can try Alsatian specialties, like the Tartes Flambee.

  • Unterlinden Museum- This museum is home to the famous Isenheim altarpiece by Matthias Grunewald.

Day trips:

A great day trip from here would be a day trip to other villages in the area, like Riquewihr (inspiration for Beauty and the Beast) and Eguisheim.

  • Restaurant Gurtlerhoft is a unique dining experience in Strasbourg. It’s centrally located and is housed in a cave!

  • Le Douanier- Great cocktail bar with a lot of great options to choose from.

  • Guillaume Scheer- Les Plaisirs Gourmands-Michelin Star restaurant-Your meal here will be unforgettable!

  • La Fignette- Great classic Alsatian food.

  • Caveau St Jean- Great Alsatian food that isn't too expensive.

  • Boulangerie Feuillete- Amazing French bakery that has breakfast and lunch. The chocolate croissant is a must!

  • Le Cercle des Arômes- Great wine bar with a relaxed atmosphere. Perfect destination to land after a busy day seeing the sights.
