Things to do in Cambria

People wearing white overalls sitting on a parade float outside during the daytime

Moonstone Beach & Boardwalk: Accessible to ocean view hotels, this walk is perfect for an early morning excursion before the fog lifts or to watch the sun melt into the sea at the end of the day.

Shamel park and beach: Kids and pets alike will love the open grass area at this park. You may be able to see tide pools at low tide at the south end. It’s perfect for a picnic!

Hearst San Simeon State Park Beach: About 10 minutes north of Cambria, this protected cove beach also has a beautiful pier to enjoy.

Main Street shopping: East & West Villages: from one end of town to the other, shopping opportunities abound! A few of my favorites are Bounding Main (women’s apparel), Sea + Green (gift/specialty) and The Garden Shed (home).

Pinedorado Festival (Labor Day Weekend): Fun for all! Kids will have fun playing carnival games and winning prizes and adults can’t skip the BBQ and wine/beer garden and the car show. Labor Day Saturday also features a parade!

Fiscalini Ranch Preserve: Walk one of the many coastal trails on Fiscalini Ranch to see local wildlife, flora and fauna and feel the ocean breeze.

Hearst Castle: Ride the tour bus to La Cuesta Encantada or the Enchanted Hill and hear from certified docents about the history and construction of the castle. W.R. Hearst’s abode in San Simeon is beautiful year-round and full of history and grandeur. See if you can spot the zebras on the way there!

Elephant seals: Visit the Elephant Seal Vista Point to see these massive animals in their natural habitat! The Piedras Blancas Rookery is host to many of these animals throughout the year.

Ragged Point: Drive about 45 minutes up the winding Highway 1 to Ragged Point to enjoy remote cliffside coastal views and walks and a quaint coffee shop.

Breakfast

Lunch

  • Firestone Main Street Grill - Get a basket of fries for the table! The tri-tip is not to miss.

  • Boni’s Tacos - Two locations, the taco truck on Main and the storefront in the Tin City area. Delicious Mexican fare, I always get a carne asada burrito.

  • Sandy’s Deli - Sandwiches, salads and smoothies. Take it to-go and head to the beach!

Dinner

  • Madeline’s - French leaning fine dining with a huge wine list!

  • Indigo Moon - Creative menu in a relaxed atmosphere. The Calamari Piccata is to die for!

  • Sea Chest - Oyster bar and seafood restaurant. You’ll always find folks lining up before opening! Cash only, no reservations. Sitting at the bar can help you avoid a wait sometime, and you get to watch them cook!
