The Kuzina Beach Club in Mykonos has loungers and umbrellas that line the beach in front of the crystal-clear water on a sunny day.
Curator’s statement

Greece is a magical place where the dark turquoise ocean extends as far the the eye can see, a true paradise destination. Each island has its own personality, typography and type of lodging. As a family’s first trip to Greece, it is usually fun to visit the most iconic islands and get the lay of the land for a future visit. This is what we did as a family and had the most amazing and memorable times. However, the Cyclades are made up of 220 islands, so there are many other options to visit as well.

We started in Athens and spent one night, having arrived on a very early flight we had that whole day and evening to explore. We continued to Mykonos via ferry and finally Santorini also via ferry. Then we caught our return flight from Santorini via Athens.

Things to do in Greece

Advisor posing on rocks overlooking the Acropolis on a clear day.

A family’s first trip to Greece must include a stop in Athens. Take some time to walk through the town and find a typical restaurant to enjoy the wonderful Mediterranean cuisine. Visit the little shops, and take in the culture and the vibe. The Acropolis is a must see, especially in the late afternoon when the sun starts to set and the lights come on. It closes at 7:30 pm in summer and 6 pm in autumn.

In Mykonos, renting a car to get around the island to experience the different areas and gorgeous beaches is recommended. Visit Mykonos town and take your time strolling down the picturesque little streets. Find the Mykonos windmills and take the iconic photo. Reserving a beach club like Kuzina, with sun beds next to the ocean and dedicated staff, is a great way to spend a day. Taking a boat tour with lunch included is a great way to see the island from the ocean allowing you time to relax, take in the views and swim in the clear blue water.

In Santorini, try to stay in a cave hotel, rent a car and explore the small villages in the mountains. Taste wine at Sigalas Winery. Hike one of the best trails in the world from Fira to Oia. Visit Red Beach, Akrotiri and spend some time in Oia. There are also a couple of beach clubs you can spend a day in. One I like is Jojo's.

Need to know

Greece is such a magical destination. You will want to return the instant you have to leave. Make sure to take enough time to visit each area, one or two nights in Athens, three nights in Mykonos and three in Santorini. If you want some down time to just sit and enjoy the views, read a book, take time at the beaches, add an extra night on each island.
