Things to do in London
Westminster Abbey - This iconic Gothic cathedral overflows with history. In its nearly 1,000-year history, it has been home to opulent royal weddings, the coronation of more than 40 monarchs and the final resting place of not only 18 former monarchs, but pillars of the literary, political and science world including Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens, Isaac Newton and William Wilberforce.
Buckingham Palace - While the official home of the British Monarchy is only open for tours during the summer months, you can still stand before its gates and pay tribute to King Charles III. If the Royal Standard is flying above the palace, it means a member of the royal family is in residence.
Harrods - Easily one of the most famous department stores in the world, Harrods has over 1 million square feet of shopping space and more than 300 departments. But beyond being a shopper's heaven, the store itself is a work of art.
Trafalgar Square - Often called "London's Common Room" this beautiful square captures the energy of London and is often home to large gatherings, protests and other key events. Nelson's Column rises from the center almost like a compass to help you navigate your way through the city.
Piccadilly Circus - This busy corner in London's West End feels a lot like London's Time Square and captivates with large illuminated signs, vibrant nightclubs and trendy restaurants.
Covent Garden - This neighborhood boasts world-class restaurants and dining plus a vibrant theater scene. You can't help but be charmed by what is easily one of London's most loved neighborhoods.
London Eye - The world's largest Ferris wheel will take you more than 400 feet above the Thames River, giving you amazing views of London and beyond! For the best experience, I recommend getting the VIP Champagne Experience with a timed ticket, allowing you to sip champagne as you enjoy the view. Just don't be surprised if you witness a marriage proposal or two.
Tower of London - Arguably London's most iconic castle/fortress, the Tower of London allows you to get a close-up view of the Crown Jewels and British history. Built by William the Conqueror, the Tower has been home to at least 22 executions, most famously that of Queen Anne Boleyn.
Day Trips
If you need an extra dose of history and castles, be sure to plan time to take a day trip to Windsor. The beloved castle is the oldest in Europe and was one of Queen Elizabeth II's favorite residences.
Places to eat & drink in London
Cahoots London - Tucked into an easily missed alley in SoHo, Cahoots is the ultimate speakeasy experience. A former underground station, the bar recreates the spirit of the second world war down to the smallest details. Definitely plan to make reservations in advance as it books up fast!
Gordon's Wine Bar - Located in Embankment, Gordon's is believed to be the oldest wine bar in London. While they don't take reservations, it is worth trying to find a spot in its candlelit, vaulted cellar to enjoy a bottle of great wine.
EL&N - These quant cafes can be found in numerous locations, especially around Hyde Park. The café offers brunch classics like Eggs Benedict, decadent treats like its amazing French toast and an unbelievable assortment of pastries. It is often called the "most Instagramable café in the world" for a reason.
Leicester Arms Pub - When you close your eyes and picture a London pub, Leicester Arms is what immediately comes to mind. Here you can enjoy the best fish & chips in the UK with a side of "mushy peas" while sampling a mix of British and European beers.
Indian Food - A lot of people are surprised to realize that some of the best food in London is Indian food. Stemming from its time in the Commonwealth, the city is full of amazing, off-the-beaten-path places to enjoy a delish curry or butter chicken.
Opium - This hidden cocktail bar in the heart of London's Chinatown serves up delicious oriental-themed drinks.
Nightjar - Another great speakeasy located in Shoreditch, Nightjar takes its inspiration from prohibition. Here you can enjoy experimental cocktails and rare spirits, including amazing absinthe.
Covent Garden Cocktail Club - Technically a members-only club, don't fret as membership will only cost you a pound or two. This bar is located beneath the busy sidewalks of Covent Garden and serves up lively music and great cocktails. Don't be surprised if you end up spending the entire evening on one of its red leather sofas, singing along with fellow patrons as the bartender makes the lamps sway.
