Things to do in Barcelona

City views from Park Guell

Tours/Activities:

La Sagrada Familia

This is a must-visit! The basilica is breathtaking and truly amazing; it's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highly recommend booking tickets ahead of time because it's very busy. There are several different tour options; we opted for the self-guided tour because that worked best for our kids.

Park Guëll

This is another UNESCO World Heritage site that was designed by Gaudí. Park Guëll is huge and you could spend a whole day exploring the park. I would recommend getting tickets ahead of time; we didn't do this and when I went to get tickets, they only had the 5pm slot available, so we didn't have as much time to explore the park. The mosaics in the park are stunning and just so beautiful. This is a great activity for the whole family and the perfect place for kids to run around.

Casa Batllò

This was one of our favorite activities and totally worth it to do the immersive interactive experience vs. the regular ticket. With the immersive interactive experience, you get a tablet that you use along the tour, and if you point the tablet at certain areas within the house, objects come to life. My kids (five and six) absolutely loved this experience.

Museu de la Xocolata

Once my kids found out there was a chocolate museum in Barcelona, we had to put it on the list. The museum itself is quite small, but they have chocolate-making experiences that you can book ahead of time through their website. They have experiences just for kids as well as the whole family. We signed my kids up to make chocolate Easter eggs. The chocolate eggs were huge and they use really good, high-quality chocolate. My kids really enjoyed the activity and it was one of the things that made the trip special for them.

Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona

Did you know Barcelona has an Arc de Triomphe, too? There is a huge walking path where you can just walk along and take in the sights. In the spring time, there are beautiful flowers that line the path with street performers entertaining the tourist.

Mercado de La Boqueria

One of the largest public markets in Barcelona, and they have everything! It's fun to just walk around, but you can pop into some of the stalls for a wine tasting or a quick bit as well.

La Rambla

Lively shopping area in Barcelona. There are many shops, hotels, and restaurants along La Rambla.

Places to eat & drink in Barcelona

Avocado Toast for breakfast at Bloome by Sasha.

Breakfast:

Cappuccino

Perfect spot for a quick breakfast before heading out. Lots of croissants and breakfast sandwiches. They make fresh orange juice daily, which was so good. They have tons of sandwiches and desserts if you want to pop in for lunch or a snack. My kids were a big fan of their chocolate churros. We would pop in for these after having dinner somewhere else.

Bloome by Sasha

Very cute, but small breakfast spot. However, the food and coffee were really good and you could taste the freshness of their ingredients. I had the avocado toast with a poached egg and my kids had the pancakes. Everyone was happy!

Lunch:

Empanada Club Born

This is a quick take-away spot as they don't have seating inside. There are a few tables outside or you can take your food back to your hotel, which is what we did. I am a huge fan of empanadas and these were delicious. We went here a couple of times for lunch because everything was so good. Our favorites were the curry chicken and spicy beef.

Dinner:

Luigi Ristoirante Via

One of the best Italian meals I've had. Their wood-fire pizzas and pastas were amazing. I highly recommend their spicy pizza and their salmon pasta! Both were divine.

Drinks/Snacks:

Terrass del Gotic

Rooftop bar at H10 Madison. Great place to have some drinks and enjoy the views. My sangria was very tasty and the presentation was a 10.

Chocolat-Box

Looking for Gelato, this is the place! There are tons of gelato and coffee shops all over Barcelona, but this one was fantastic with so many flavors that you can mix. My kids were fans.
