Curator’s statement
Le Marais is a trendy, unique neighborhood in Paris. Here, you can find some of the best boutique and high-end shopping in the city, great museums including the Picasso Museum, and amazing food on every street. Exploring Le Marais shows you a fun, quirky side to a city otherwise known for its historic architecture and classic vibe. After living here for six months, it's safe to say it is my favorite part of Paris.

Day 1: Day Trip to Le Marais

Are you spending some time in Paris soon? A trip to Paris is not complete without a day exploring the chic neighborhood of Le Marais. It is nestled in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. A quick hop on the metro from anywhere in the city will land you in the midst of some of the best shopping in Paris and unique streets to stroll through.
How do I get to Le Marais?
The best way to get to Le Marais is to hop into a Metro station for Line 1, 11 or 8, depending on which direction you are coming from. Here are the closest Metro stops around Le Marais.
Line 1: Hôtel de Ville, Saint-Paul
Line 11: Rambuteau, Arts et Métiers
Line 8: Chemin Vert, Saint-Sébastien-Froissart
Savory Crêpes and Museum Hopping
The best start to the day is stopping for a crêpe at Breizh Café. Nestled in a prime location, down the street from the beautiful National Archives Museum and the Picasso Museum. This place will always have a line out the door, but it is worth the wait for sure. After filling up on some savory crêpes, step outside to explore the many shops on and around Rue Vieille du Temple before heading inside the Picasso Museum. If Picasso isn’t your style, one of my favorite museums in Paris is right down the road, Musee Cognacq-Jay. This small museum is in a stunning building, containing an array of 18th-century art and other collectibles.
Window Shopping, Famous Falafel and a trip to the Park
After delving into art and history, allow yourself to wander the streets of Le Marais. Make your way to Rue des Rosiers, a picturesque cobblestone street lined with more shops and bakeries. Grabbing a falafel pita from L’As du Fallafel is a must, and don’t be afraid of the line! You can either pick up the falafel and continue on your way or sit inside for a fun and casual eating environment.
While walking, falafel in hand, make your way down Rue des Francs Bourgeois until you happen upon Place des Vosges, a quaint, square park built by Henry IV, perfect for resting after a long day on your feet.
Dinner and a Night Cap
There are many great restaurants in Le Marais, and some require reservations. A couple of my favorites are Les Bougresses and Chez Janou, both steps from Place des Vosges. If you’re feeling up for a nightcap, Little Red Door and Candelaria are two speakeasies worth popping into if they have an open seat! If you’re into people-watching, stop by any cafe with outdoor seating on a busy street and relax with a bottle of wine to end a perfect day in Le Marais.
