Day 1: Arrival in Rio de Janeiro - exploring the heart of the city
Arrive in Rio: Welcome to Rio de Janeiro! After arriving at Galeão International Airport, take a short transfer to your hotel and check in. Rio is known for its lively energy, so get ready for an exciting adventure!
Explore the Escadaria Selarón: Start your exploration by visiting the iconic Escadaria Selarón (Selarón Steps), one of Rio's most famous landmarks. This colorful staircase, covered in over 2000 tiles from all over the world, was created by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón. It’s a fantastic spot for photos and to immerse yourself in the vibrant street art culture of Rio.
Lapa & Carioca da Gema: In the evening, head to the Lapa neighborhood, known for its lively nightlife and historic charm. Enjoy a Brazilian dinner at one of the many local restaurants, and don't miss the opportunity to try feijoada, Brazil’s famous black bean stew with pork.
End your night at Carioca da Gema, a lively samba club where you can sip on caipirinhas, Brazil’s national cocktail, and dance to the infectious rhythms of samba music.
Day 2: Santa Teresa, beach vibes, and samba dancing
Santa Teresa neighborhood & historical tram ride: Start your day by visiting the charming Santa Teresa neighborhood. Known for its narrow, winding streets and colonial-style houses, Santa Teresa is full of character and history. Take the iconic Santa Teresa Tram (bondinho), a historical streetcar that runs through the hills of Rio. It offers spectacular views of the city as you learn about the neighborhood’s rich past.
Beach day at Ipanema: Next, make your way to Ipanema Beach, one of Rio’s most famous stretches of sand. Head to Posto 9 (Ipanema's most popular beach section) or Posto 11 (slightly quieter, perfect for relaxation). Rent an umbrella, relax and enjoy the sun, beach and sea. You’ll find beach vendors offering everything from refreshing coconut water to Brazilian snacks like pão de queijo (cheese bread).
Samba class & dinner: In the evening, indulge in a dinner of Brazilian barbecue at Fogo de Chão or a local churrascaria. Then, join a samba class to learn the basics of Brazil's most famous dance style. Whether you're an experienced dancer or a first timer, the rhythm and fun of samba will have you hooked.
Day 3: Hiking, beaches & sunset views
Hike to Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar): Start your day with an invigorating hike to Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain). The hike takes you through lush Atlantic Forest trails, offering stunning views of the city below. Alternatively, take the cable car to the summit, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Rio’s beaches, bays and mountains.
Copacabana walk & Joatinga Beach: Next, stroll along the iconic Copacabana Beach Promenade, with its black-and-white wave-patterned sidewalk. If you’re looking for a quieter beach escape, head to Joatinga Beach, a hidden gem located in a protected cove. It’s less crowded, perfect for sunbathing, swimming or just enjoying the tranquil atmosphere.
Dinner in Rio: For dinner, explore the vibrant Leblon neighborhood and enjoy a meal at one of the many upscale restaurants. Try moqueca (a flavorful fish stew) or indulge in delicious fresh seafood at Zaza Bistro Tropical.
Day 4: Christ the Redeemer & Tijuca National Park
Visit Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado): Today is dedicated to one of Rio’s most iconic landmarks: Christ the Redeemer. Head to Corcovado Mountain, where the giant statue of Christ overlooks the city. You’ll take a train through the lush Tijuca Forest to reach the summit, where you’ll have breathtaking views of Rio de Janeiro and its surrounding beaches.
Tijuca National Park hike: After visiting Christ the Redeemer, take time to explore Tijuca National Park, one of the largest urban rainforests in the world. You can hike through its trails, observe wildlife, and see other waterfalls and viewpoints. One popular trail is the Cachoeira das Almas, which takes you to a beautiful waterfall surrounded by tropical vegetation.
Dinner in Rio: For your evening meal, head to Botafogo for a dinner with a view of Sugarloaf Mountain. Try a traditional churrasco or enjoy some acarajé (fried black-eyed pea balls filled with shrimp) from one of the local restaurants.
Day 5: Botanical gardens & journey to Cabo Frio
Jardim Botânico (Botanical Gardens): Start your day with a visit to the Jardim Botânico (Botanical Gardens), a lush oasis in the middle of Rio. Wander through the gardens, where you’ll find exotic plants, historical monuments and beautiful walking paths. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including monkeys, birds and butterflies.
Travel to Cabo Frio: After your visit to the Botanical Gardens, it’s time to head to Cabo Frio, a coastal city about 2.5 hours north of Rio. Known for its stunning beaches and relaxed atmosphere, Cabo Frio offers a quieter alternative to Rio’s hustle and bustle. Check in to your resort and spend the afternoon unwinding by the beach or pool.
Relax and enjoy Cabo Frio: Enjoy a leisurely evening in Cabo Frio. Head to Rua dos Biquínis, the town’s main shopping street, for souvenirs and a casual dinner by the beach. The town is known for its excellent seafood, so be sure to try a fresh fish dish.
Day 6: Day Trip to Arraial do Cabo – The Brazilian Caribbean
Day trip to Arraial do Cabo: Today, take a day trip to Arraial do Cabo, often called the “Brazilian Caribbean” for its pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. The town is just a short drive from Cabo Frio and is famous for its boat tours and snorkel spots. Spend your day cruising along the coastline, exploring the beautiful Prainha Beach, Pontal do Atalaia and the stunning Blue Grotto.
Snorkeling & beach relaxation: Don’t miss the chance to snorkel or dive in the crystal-clear waters of Arraial do Cabo. The area is rich in marine life, including colorful fish, sea turtles and even dolphins. After snorkeling, enjoy some downtime on the beach, soaking up the sun.
Return to Cabo Frio: Head back to Cabo Frio in the evening. Here you can relax and enjoy a delicious dinner, perhaps at Restaurante do Chedi, a popular spot for fresh seafood and Brazilian specialties.
Day 7: Morning sun in Cabo Frio & return to Rio
Sunrise at Praia do Forte: On your last day, wake up early and head to Praia do Forte for a beautiful sunrise. This beach is known for its tranquil waters and golden sands, making it the perfect spot to reflect on your trip and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
Return to Rio: After a relaxing morning in Cabo Frio, catch a flight back to Rio de Janeiro in the afternoon. You’ll have some free time for last-minute shopping or to explore anything you missed earlier in the trip.
Departure: Head to the airport for your evening flight home, filled with memories of your incredible Brazilian adventure!
