La Mer, situated within the Halekulani Hotel, is the only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star restaurant in Hawai'i. The restaurant specializes in Neoclassic French cuisine, using local ingredients to create dishes that are both inspired and timeless. If you only have one splurge meal in your budget, this is it. The oceanfront setting makes La Mer the perfect place to catch a spectacular sunset.

  • Pro tip: Arrive early and enjoy a cocktail at La Mer’s equally elevated cocktail bar, L’aperitif. My favorite was the “Rêve De Tahiti,” which features rye whiskey, white peach tea almond syrup, orange bitters and cherry wood smoke.

Helena’s Hawaiian Food
For an authentic taste of traditional Hawaiian cuisine, Helena’s Hawaiian Food is a must-visit. This family-run restaurant has been serving locals and tourists since 1946, offering classic dishes like Kalua pig, Lomi salmon and Haupia. It’s a place where you can experience the genuine flavors of Hawai'i in a laid-back setting.

Roy's Ko Olina
Roy’s Ko Olina, part of the renowned Roy’s franchise by Chef Roy Yamaguchi, is located on the western coast. This restaurant blends Hawaiian ingredients with European techniques, resulting in a fresh take on fusion cuisine. The scenic views, live music and relaxed ambiance make for a comfortable and delightful dining experience.

  • Pro tip: Enjoy live music from 6-9 pm (Friday–Sunday) in the Bridge Bar lanai, overlooking the 18th hole of the Ko Olina golf course.

The Pig and the Lady
The Pig and the Lady, a family-run restaurant in Honolulu’s Chinatown, has earned a loyal following for its creative Vietnamese fusion dishes. Something sweet
No visit to the North Shore is complete without a stop at Ted’s Bakery. Famous for its pies, cakes and hearty plate lunches, Ted’s Bakery is a beloved institution among locals and tourists. Can you say, “pineapple macadamia nut cheesecake?” The bakery also serves breakfast and lunch items, such as the loco moco and garlic shrimp plate, making it a great spot for a casual meal before or after hitting the nearby beaches.
