Things to do in Madrid
Puerto del Sol: The Puerta del Sol is a bustling public square in the very center of Madrid and home to the famous clock tower! It’s also where Spain’s national roads originate and the perfect place to begin your tour of the city.
Plaza Mayor: Just a short walk from Puerto del Sol, this is a bustling, 400-year-old square located in the oldest part of the city. While you’re there, enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of tempranillo on one of the many terraces and soak up the scene!
Palacio Real de Madrid: The Royal Palace of Madrid is massive and worth a visit! It’s the biggest palace in all of Europe and also one of the most beautiful. Be sure to buy tickets ahead of time to skip the line!
Catedral de Santa Maria, la Real de la Almudena: An absolutely gorgeous cathedral located right across the street from the Palacio Real and worth a quick visit!
Prado Museum: El Prado is a must-visit for art and history lovers! The museum holds an amazing collection of paintings and the building itself is worth a visit.
Visit the La Latina neighborhood: A neighborhood known for some of the best tapas in Madrid! If you’re there on a Sunday, be sure not to skip the El Rastro market. It’s one of the most famous in all of Spain!
Places to eat & drink in Madrid
Mercado de San Miguel - A food hall packed with 20 stalls serving an amazing assortment of Spanish tapas. Try the Iberian ham, the pulpo (octopus), patatas bravas and my favorite, croquetas!
Sobrino de Botin — With its claim to fame as the world’s oldest restaurant, Sobrino de Botín has been around since 1725. Try the signature sucking pig and lamb!
Chocolatería San Ginés - A must eat stable in Madrid. Piping hot, fresh churros served with a mug of chocolate for dipping. What’s not to love?
Valdemesmo - An amazing, authentic spot you’re unlikely to find in a guidebook or blog! This small, casual restaurant is usually packed with locals, sharing the incredible paella and wonderful sangria!
