Advisor - Discover Greece’s Emerging Island: Milos
Curator’s statement

Greece is an incredibly popular European destination, with the Cyclades being home to some of the most well-known islands, including Santorini and Mykonos. While these islands are stunning and undoubtedly worth visiting, they can also be quite touristy. If you're seeking a more authentic and adventurous Greek experience, Milos is the perfect choice.

Things to do in Milos, Greece

  • Sarakiniko Beach: Explore the renowned Sarakiniko Beach, also known as the "Moon Beach," located on the island's northern shore. This stunning stretch of white sand has been shaped over time by the wind, transforming the rugged volcanic landscape into a smooth, otherworldly shore. Featuring dramatic cliffs and intriguing caves, Sarakiniko is a must-see for any traveler.

  • Tsigrado Beach: The hidden gem of Tsigrado Beach is well worth the effort it takes to reach it. You’ll park at the top of a hill and descend a narrow, rugged path that leads to a rope and ladder. While the descent may seem intimidating, the reward is more than worth it. Once you’ve made your way down, you’ll be greeted by a secluded beach with crystal-clear waters and dramatic cliffs.

  • Full-day boat tour: A boat tour around Milos is arguably the best way to experience the island’s stunning coastline. Guided by an expert captain, you'll be taken to the most pristine swimming and snorkeling spots, where the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea offer unparalleled beauty. Along the way, enjoy delicious, authentic Greek cuisine paired with unlimited local wine. The tour will also give you access to some of the island’s most secluded and breathtaking areas — many of which are only reachable by boat — allowing you to explore hidden beaches, sea caves and dramatic rock formations. It’s an unforgettable way to discover Milos from a whole new perspective.

  • Shopping in Plaka: Perched on the hillside with stunning views of the Milos coastline, Plaka is one of the island’s most charming villages. Its cobblestone streets are lined with delightful boutiques, including my favorite shop featuring a designer from Athens. You’ll discover unique Greek souvenirs, local art, handmade jewelry and more. After an afternoon of shopping, be sure to stop by Utopia Cafe for a drink. Watch the breathtaking sunset, before enjoying a European-style dinner late in the evening.

  • Renting an ATV: To fully experience all that this stunning island has to offer, renting either a car or an ATV is a must. Many parts of Milos are only accessible by ATV or boat, due to the narrow roads, rugged terrain and steep cliffs. Depending on your plans, you can rent an ATV for a day. For the ultimate experience, rent an ATV for your entire stay — allowing you to explore every corner of the island at your own pace.

Places to eat & drink in Milos, Greece

Breakfast:

  • Artemis Bakery: Must get Greek coffee and the Spanakopita.

Lunch and dinner:

  • O! Hamos!: Tucked away beneath a canopy of trees, this charming and authentic Greek taverna embraces a farm-to-table philosophy, sourcing ingredients from their own local farm. The family-oriented atmosphere shines through with a handwritten menu and rustic pottery used for serving dishes. Be sure to try the island’s local wine, served in their adorable handmade pottery!

  • Sirocco: One-of-a-kind seafood restaurant where the fish you choose is cooked using the natural geothermal heat from the island's volcanic sand. The result is an incredibly flavorful dish that’s well worth the slightly longer wait while the fish cooks to perfection.

  • Medusa: Nestled right by the stunning Aegean waters in Mandrakia. The restaurant serves exceptional, fresh seafood from local fishermen. Famous for its grilled octopus, Medusa truly lives up to its reputation, delivering a dish that’s as delicious as it is iconic.

Drinks:

  • Utopia: The best place to sip a cocktail and relax while watching sunset in Plaka. Great cocktails, and local beer and wine.
