Things to do

Sunset island

Swim with the Humpback Whales!

During whale season, between July and October, Wet & Wild Aitutaki makes daily trips out to see and swim with the whales. We swam with them on our honeymoon here in July 2022. It was an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Diving

Dive down to see eagle rays, moray eels, and beautiful fish. If you’re new to diving, you can take an introductory lesson to learn the basics of scuba diving.

Take a Lagoon cruise

Jump aboard for a full day of snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing. Visit several islands in the Aitutaki Lagoon and learn more about the culture and history of Aitutaki at the same time. There are several companies running lagoon tours to choose from.

Kitesurfing

Aitutaki is known for its perfect, safe conditions for kitesurfing. It’s a great place to learn! If you’re up for some adventure, take a kitesurfing lesson. It’s best during May to October.

Snorkel

The resorts are all located right by the beaches so you can easily snorkel at any time. They typically include snorkel gear, too, which you can borrow.

Fishing

Charter a boat for a half-day or full day of fishing.

Island night

Enjoy an evening of history, culture and traditions at a must-do island night.

Relax

Put your feet up and enjoy a massage at your resort’s spa, followed by a cocktail by the pool. You’re on island time now!

Places to eat & drink

Yummy coffee

As Aitutaki is a very small island, restaurant reservations are recommended in advance.

Rapae Bay Restaurant at the Pacific Resort - Fine dining with beautiful views over the lagoon. If you have time, stop in for a delicious cocktail at Black Rock Bar beforehand.

Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Avatea Cafe - a cozy restaurant serving fresh, flavourful food. Be sure to try the Fish Taco Trio!

Koru Cafe - A pleasant spot for a quick breakfast or lunch with lots of outdoor tables.

The Boat Shed Bar & Grill - A laidback pub-style restaurant with nice views of the lagoon.
